At Omega-H Real Estate Inspection Service, we know that choosing the right home inspector can be difficult.  All licensed inspectors are bound by the same Code of Ethics, and Standards-of-Practice, as set forth by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC).  However, inspectors have different qualifications, equipment, experience, reporting methods, and yes, different pricing.
One thing is for sure, home inspection requires work - a lot of work. Ultimately, a thorough inspection depends heavily, on the individual inspectors personal effort.  Regardless of what inspector you choose, you should ask how much time they spend performing an inspection.  If it is less than 3 hours, you should be concerned that you will not be getting a thorough inspection.  The Standards of Practice as developed, defines for the consumer, the minimum standards by which a home inspection is to be performed.  
A thorough home inspection goes beyond the minimum requirements and therefore requires more time.

Cost is always a consideration these days.  However, it should not be the deciding factor.  A thorough inspection may cost a little more, but you are less likely to get hit with unexpected surprises later on, which will be more costly to your investment.
